Our Commitment
The Libertarian Party of Canada prides itself on championing privacy rights. As such, we take great efforts to ensure the protection and privacy of personal information. Security and confidentiality are paramount to our party’s values.
The Libertarian Party is fully compliant with Elections Canada’s regulations with respect to privacy.
Personal Information
We define personal information as names, residential addresses, and contact information, as well as membership status, volunteer and donation history.
The Libertarian Party of Canada collects names, general contact information, as well as residential addresses of all of our members. We take precautions to ensure the confidentiality and security with this information, except in cases involving compliance with the law (For example, federal political contributions over $200 must be publicly disclosed).
We ensure procedures are in place under which individuals may request access to their personal information, request correction of their personal information, and file complaints concerning the management of their personal information;
Individuals who collect personal information are required to complete an acknowledgement that they have read our Privacy Policy and agree to the terms outlined within.
How We Collect Information
We collect public data from Elections Canada, such as names and postal codes. For party volunteers, donors and memberships we collect personal information, as required by law, for tax purposes.
All instances of collecting personal data are collected with consent, under the provision of privacy and security of the data.
All instances of providing an email constitute consent to be added to our email list and can be unsubscribed to at anytime through the Contact Us tab.
The Libertarian Party of Canada may use cookies to collect data on our website traffic, please consult your browser’s help files if you wish to refuse this practice.
How We Use the Data
We use the data to reach out to the libertarian community. Personal information can be disclosed to regional associations for the Libertarian Party of Canada, which is used by candidates, nomination, and leadership contestants. We do not use information in any way outside of that which is disclosed.
Individuals who use personal information are required to complete an acknowledgement that they have read our Privacy Policy and agree to the terms outlined within.
How We Secure the Data
Our security measures to protect data are advanced and continually being made up-to-date. Software patches are added regularly and the data is stored in systems guarded 24 hours a day by a third party.
We do not sell data and it is only sent securely.
All individuals who are capable of accessing private information will be taught on the proper practices for safeguarding this information. We commit to:
- requesting an acknowledgement that they have read our Privacy Policy and agree to the terms outlined within;
- assigning electronic access only to the level required for their position;
- properly disposing of hard copy documents, CDs, and other media to ensure the privacy of the data contained within;
- ensuring procedures are in place under which individuals are notified of an improper collection, retention, use, disclosure or destruction of their personal information; and
- monitoring the degree of compliance with this Policy and, where required, initiating action to correct any issues.
