The Libertarian Party of Canada is proud to name Alex Joehl as our candidate for the Dec. 16 by-election in Cloverdale-Langley City.
The by-election is needed to backfill a spot abdicated by a Liberal MP on May 27, 2024.
Alex, the leader of the provincial BC Libertarian Party, has represented the LPoC three times, most recently in Langley-Aldergrove in 2019, when he gained 499 votes.
“Running in this by-election is important to me because I wanted to make sure that all voters have a principled, liberty-based option to vote for,” said Alex. “I had some fantastic volunteers help me collect signatures and get Liberty on this ballot.”
This is a very short election period, but Alex plans to do his best to challenge the other candidates to address some challenges that otherwise would not be brought up.
“Libertarians serve a purpose in elections by raising issues that the larger parties would rather not address, that they’d rather ignore,” said Alex. “For example, the major parties won’t even talk about neutering the Bank of Canada and ending fractional reserve banking – and that’s the only way to truly get inflation under control.”
While Alex lives in a neighbouring constituency, he works and plays within the riding’s boundaries, so there is a connection.
“I believe I can represent the needs of the Cloverdale-Langley City riding as well or better than any of the other candidates,” said Alex. “I interact with these residents every day, so I’m not a helicopter candidate.”
There are six candidates total in the race, including Ian Kennedy of the People’s Party of Canada.
“It will be interesting differentiating myself from a PPC candidate during the short campaign,” said Alex. “They may be closest to us in political policy, but their policies lack the gumption to actually fix the various crises in this country.”
Thank you Alex for putting in the hard work to get on the ballot and represent the Libertarian Party of Canada in this by-election!
