Free Choices for a Free Country

FREE CHOICES FOR A FREE COUNTRY

Canadians have one thing in common: the desire to live in a free country.

The established parties have a different thing in common: a record of legislating more and more rules for Canadians to follow.

The discrepancy between what Canadians want and what the established parties deliver has never been more obvious than it is today.

Now is the time Canadians have a chance to be heard. Now is the time for people to state their choice at the ballot box - more of the same with ever more dismal results, or something very much better?

It is vitally important to think long and hard about the choice in front of us, as that decision will affect our lives and our children's lives for many years to come.

LIBERTARIANS - FOR CHOICE

The Libertarian Party of Canada is made up of people who want to make Canada a freer place. We hold Liberty as our prime value, and freedom within Canada as our main political goal. Many of our members and supporters are actively involved in their communities, as strong advocates for free choice in schooling, greater choice for farmers, increased access to global communications, equal rights for fathers and mothers, greater financial control for taxpayers, and in many other areas.

We are guided by one widely-respected principle: that it is wrong to aggress against, intimidate or defraud others. What makes us unique is that we apply this common-sense rule to government as well as individuals and groups. Unlike the politicians of other parties, Libertarians are people who believe that no member of government should be above the law or be permitted to aggress with impunity. We believe, deeply, that good government exists to defend individual rights. It is meant to serve us and not to dominate us. We believe, with heart and soul, in the ideal of Liberty: that every one of us has the right to manage our own lives, and the obligation to respect our fellow Canadians' right to do the same.

We know that in asking for support in the voting booth, we are asking you to make the courageous decision to support something new. But we think we can give you good, solid reasons to do just that.

Our approach is principled. We say what we mean, and we mean what we say. We're not afraid to stand up for each and every individual who is being burdened with unjust laws, petty rules, and taxes going to causes of dubious worth. No other party defends Canadians' freedom so consistently and impartially. Every single one of our candidates has signed a written pledge NEVER to advocate aggression by government, and always to uphold the rights of peaceful Canadians to make their own choices and take responsibility for them. Some people say this makes us radicals. Well, if loving a free country is radical, then they are right.

Because our message is so very clear, it cannot be misunderstood by the political powers-that-be. Each and every vote for the Libertarian Party of Canada is a loud and clear call for more freedom of choice in our lives. We suggest that if that is what you want, that is what you should vote for.

If you vote for any other party, the established party politicians will believe that you are asking for ever more laws and arbitrary restrictions. Every other political party wants to make government dominate some area of our lives. Some of the politicians in these parties have blatantly favoured certain special interest groups at the expense of everyone else. Most, however, have had good intentions but even today just don't understand or fully appreciate how more and more government controls eventually snuff out freedom of choice. As a result, over time the established parties have created an unnecessary explosion in the number of intrusions that government makes into our lives.

Canadians are fed up with all of this. Everyone can point to particular examples where their freedom of choice has been trampled. For some, it is the freedom to sell their own farm products to whomever they wish, without being treated as a criminal. For many, it is the freedom to provide a better retirement plan for themselves instead of having to pay into the inadequate one imposed upon Canadians. For others, it is the freedom to subscribe to modern satellite television without having to sneak around restrictive rules. For still others, it is the freedom to responsibly own a firearm. For yet more of us, it is the freedom to run a business responsibly and without being overrun by government forms and rules and miles of red tape. And for far too many of us, it is the right to parent or grandparent our precious children free of the arbitrary rules and orders of lawyers and legislators and courts.

Of course, we support freedom of choice in all areas of life -- not only in those covered by the examples above. So whatever issue of freedom concerns you the most, consider that only a vote for the Libertarian Party of Canada will register your position faithfully and with no misunderstanding. No compromises of your liberty, no assumptions that you cannot manage your own life, no presumptions that politicians and bureaucrats know better than you do how to spend your money.

Politicians and bureaucrats do have a place in a free Canada, but that place is not in your family, your finances, your religion, or your peaceful pursuit of happiness -- except to protect the equal rights of all Canadians to acquire and enjoy such things. It is THAT knowledge which distinguishes your Libertarian candidate from all other political candidates. If you see the value of liberty in your life, don't waste your vote on anything else.

MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT.

VOTE LIBERTARIAN.
